Respite Care Services in Napa, CA
Trusted Relief for Family Caregivers Hours, Days, or Weeks at a Time
At A Partner in Caring, we step in when family caregivers need a break whether that’s a few hours, a long weekend, a vacation, or extended time away. Our respite care services give you peace of mind that your loved one is safe, comfortable, and engaged at home with a trained caregiver who already knows their routine.
What Our Respite Care Services Include
Family caregivers experience burnout at significantly higher rates than the general population, which affects their health, their work, and the quality of care they’re able to provide at home. Stepping away to rest, travel, or take care of your own life isn’t a luxury it’s how you sustain caregiving over the long term.
Â
We build each respite plan around your loved one’s daily routine, medications, comfort needs, and personality so the caregiver transition feels seamless from the first hour to the last. Services include:
Short-Term Hourly Respite
A few hours of relief so you can run errands, attend appointments, exercise, see friends, or simply rest. Available weekdays, evenings, and weekends with no minimum commitment.
Overnight and Weekend Care
Trained caregivers stay with your loved one overnight or across weekends so you can sleep through the night, travel for family events, or take a short getaway with confidence.
Vacation and Extended Travel Coverage
Multi-day and multi-week respite care for vacations, work trips, weddings, and planned time away. We follow the routines you set — medications, meals, hygiene, sleep schedule — exactly as you would at home.

Around-the-clock support from a live-in caregiver who provides continuous companionship, personal care, and safety supervision while you’re away. Ideal for loved ones who can’t be left alone.
Emergency and Last-Minute Respite
Unexpected work travel, a family obligation, or your own illness — we move quickly to arrange trusted care when life shifts without warning, often within 24 to 48 hours.

Why Families Choose A Partner in Caring
Pre-Introduced Caregivers
We meet with your family before respite begins so the caregiver already knows your loved one’s routine, preferences, and personality. Familiarity turns day one from an adjustment into a continuation and makes the whole experience easier on everyone.
Trained, Background-Checked Caregivers
Every caregiver passes comprehensive background screening, skills assessment, and reference verification before their first shift. Ongoing training keeps their skills current and their approach consistent across short-term and live-in respite assignments.
Truly Flexible Scheduling
Book a few hours, a long weekend, or several weeks of live-in coverage without long-term contracts or cancellation penalties. We adjust as plans change, because they always do.
27 Years Serving Napa Valley
Since 1997, local families have trusted us to provide reliable, compassionate care during the moments they couldn’t be there themselves. We are deeply rooted in the Napa Valley community and the families who call it home.
Our Simple 4-Step Process
Step 1: Free In-Home Consultation
We meet with you and your loved one in person to learn the daily routine, health considerations, communication preferences, and what kind of caregiver presence would be most comforting during your time away.
Step 2: Customized Respite Plan
We build a written care plan covering medications, meals, hygiene, mobility support, sleep routines, emergency contacts, and any household details a caregiver needs to step in smoothly. You review and approve it before anything begins.
Step 3: Caregiver Matching and Pre-Introduction
Whenever possible, we introduce the caregiver before your respite period begins so your loved one meets them as a familiar face not a stranger walking through the door on day one.
Step 4: Active Support While You’re Away
Care begins on your schedule. We provide regular check-ins, daily updates if you request them, and a direct line to office staff for anything that comes up so you can be fully present wherever you are.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is respite care and who is it for?
Planned respite care usually begins within one to two weeks of your initial consultation. Emergency respite can often begin within 24 to 48 hours depending on caregiver availability and the level of care required.
How far in advance should I schedule respite care?
For planned vacations and travel, we recommend booking two to four weeks ahead so we can match the right caregiver and conduct a thorough handoff visit. For last-minute or emergency needs, we accommodate requests as quickly as 24 to 48 hours when caregivers are available.
Can you provide respite care overnight or 24/7?
Yes. We offer overnight stays, full weekend coverage, and 24/7 live-in respite care for extended periods. For multi-day live-in coverage, we typically rotate two trained caregivers so both rest properly and quality stays consistent.
Will the same caregiver be with my loved one the entire time?
For shorter respite periods (a few hours to a couple of days), yes one caregiver covers the assignment. For longer periods or 24/7 live-in respite, we rotate two caregivers you’ve met in advance. You’ll know exactly who is in your home and when before respite begins.
How much does respite care cost?
Our hourly respite care starts at $35/hour all-inclusive, and 24/7 live-in respite care starts at $650/day. There are no hidden fees, long-term contracts, or cancellation penalties. See our transparent pricing page for a full breakdown.
What if my parent resists the idea of someone else coming in?
This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and we plan for it. We introduce caregivers gradually often starting with a short companion visit days or weeks before your travel date so your loved one builds familiarity and trust before you leave. By the time respite begins, the caregiver is a known, welcomed presence.
Can respite caregivers help with personal care, not just companionship?
Yes. Our respite caregivers can provide bathing assistance, dressing, toileting, mobility help, medication reminders, meal preparation, and light housekeeping in addition to companionship, supervision, and engagement activities. Your care plan determines exactly what’s covered.
Is respite care covered by insurance, Medicare, or VA benefits?
Long-term care insurance policies often cover in-home respite care, and certain VA Aid and Attendance benefits apply as well. Medicare typically does not cover non-medical in-home respite. During your consultation we’ll help you understand what your coverage options look like.
